Gold Beach

Gold Beach was the codename of one of the five landing beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. It is located between Asnelles and Ver-sur-Mer on the west coast of Calvados. Approximately 25,000 men landed on D-Day, there were 413 deaths (1.7% of the men disembarked).

The beach, entrusted to the British (30th Corps), was conquered without too much difficulty. It was divided into four areas: Item, Jig, King and How but the latter was not used. The objectives were largely fulfilled, a German counter-attack was even pushed back towards 16:30.

América Museum Of Gold Beach

In this museum, two historical events are related, on the one hand, the history of the airpostale and the American pioneers, on the other hand the preparation of the D-Day by the British secret services and the assault of the 69th Brigade. The bulk of the documents and objects presented were given by combat veterans.
